Quote of the day – Fuel and goods prices
Prior to this, when the price of fuel dropped, the prices of goods did not. This was because most traders were oriented to profit rather than the welfare of consumers. However, when the price of petrol rises even a bit, they are quick to raise the prices of goods.
Mohd Yusof Abdul Rahman, Federation of Malaysian Consumer Associations (Fomca) deputy president, warning that the drop in petrol prices does not guarantee a drop in the prices of essential goods and the cost of living as most traders are profit-oriented
I cannot understand why Boeing is against it. Just imagine if this recorder and beacon is installed on the Air Asia Indonesia aircraft or MH370, we would not have to search the oceans for the planes.
Dr Mahathir Mohamad, lashing out at Boeing for not wanting to install deployable flight data and voice recorder system on commercial aircraft
In comparison with our neighbours, we are some years behind some of them. As we enter the new year, we are reminded of how far we have deviated from the original path of economic, political and social development set by our founding fathers six decades ago. Some of the more serious developments, such as the increasing polarisation in race relations, the narrowing of perspectives on religion and religious practices long accepted, the many intractable and new imbalances and inequalities in our economy, and a politics that clouds the vision of a maturing democratic system, seem to have set everything back by a few decades.
Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, Gua Musang MP, claiming Malaysia has set back several decades

Salahuddin Ayub, PAS vice president, stressing that extensive logging in Kelantan was not the main factor in the recent floods in the state
Unity government for aid
I thank (Sinar Harian owner) Hussamuddin Yaakob for making the suggestion (for a unity government). However looking at the suggestion the other way, it shows how malicious Umno and BN are.
Mahfuz Omar, PAS information chief, on the idea that PAS has to form a unity government with Kelantan to get the Umno-BN federal government’s help in rebuilding Kelantan
After interviewing the pilot, we found that he had recently been discharged from hospital after being treated for typhus. On the day of his drug test, he was still taking prescribed medication, one of which was (a cold medicine) Actifed.
