Friends or enemies

Some very close friends of mine… have sent me nasty messages condemning me for ‘selling out’. Other friends have not been too direct… I suppose I have to accept the fact that since I no longer share their ideology or doctrine about Pakatan Rakyat and Anwar Ibrahim then they would regard me as an enemy. This would be unavoidable since their friendship depends on sharing the same doctrine and if we do not share the same doctrine then we are enemies.

Raja Petra Kamaruddin, Malaysia Today owner

MIC fray

This morning, the PM contacted me and advised that all parties involved in the MIC crisis observe a moratorium and allow him to mediate and resolve the crisis.

S Subramaniam, MIC deputy president, claiming Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak will 'mediate' the MIC crisis from now on

With the current situation, we need to intervene. I think if left on its own, there doesn’t seem to be a solution. So the BN leadership, the prime minister and myself will intervene for the good of the party and BN.

Muhyiddin Yassin, Deputy Prime Minister

MH370

It is with the heaviest heart and deepest sorrow that, on behalf of the government of Malaysia, we officially declare Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 an accident in accordance with the Standards of Annexes 12 and 13 to the Chicago Convention and that all 239 of the passengers and crew on board MH370 are presumed to have lost their lives.

Azharuddin Abdul Rahman, director-general of the Department of Civil Aviation

1MDB’s loan extension

For banks to allow (an) extension, this also shows that they have a certain confidence in the company.

Chua Tee Yong, deputy Finance Minister, defending 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB by citing that "some" companies also required an extension for their loan repayments

We will never comment on an individual entity, but we have arrangements to deal with it so that no individual entity will have a systemic implication on the overall financial system of our economy.

Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz, Bank Negara governor, stressing that Bank Negara will not allow any “systemic” effect from an individual company to impact the country’s economy
