PAS wins Chempaka

PAS has retained its Chempaka state seat in the by-election held Mar 22 with an increased majority of more than 10 000 votes compared to what the party obtained in the 2013 general election.

The official results were announced by the Election Officer Ibrahim Bakri Mat Deris at the tallying center in Pengkalan Chepa Mara Junior Science College.

Ahmad Mahmood Fathan who represented PAS got 10 899 votes, while the closest contender, Sharif Mahmood, received 807 votes.

The remaining three candidates, Fadzillah Hussin, Izat Ismail Bukhary Ismail Bukhary and Aslah Mamat all received less than a hundred votes each.

Ahmad Fathan had won with by more than of 10092 votes and the four independent candidates lost their deposit.

Also present at the tallying centre were Kelantan Mentri Besar, Datuk Ahmad Yakob and deputy Mentri Besar, Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah and other PAS leaders.

The Election Commission's decision was announced at 9:05 pm.

The voting process was conducted in nine schools and the number of voters eligible to vote was 21 890 people.
