Umno’s internal war with Dr Mahathir

There are some now criticising me for supporting Bersih. Bersih is also the rakyat. Not all are wearing yellow, many are not wearing yellow. I am present (here) to show my solidarity with the people.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad, insisting that he supported the people and not Bersih, which is holding a street protest to call for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's resignation

To me, he has violated the principles of his struggle which he held to all this while. His action is clearly in contradiction with the values he instilled in Umno and the people when he was prime minister.

Hishamuddin Hussein, Umno vice president, on Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s action of appearing at the Bersih 4 rally in Kuala Lumpur

His (Dr Mahathir) presence there will only be followed by the youngsters and this is not appropriate.

Mustapa Mohamed, Kelantan Umno liaison committee chief

He has disappointed all of us by joining Bersih. He abandoned the party and when it was his turn to support us and Datuk Seri Najib Razak, he went down the path of trying to destroy it instead.

Abdul Aziz Kaprawi, Umno Supreme Council member

PM’s national day message

I would like to repeat... Once the sails have been set, once the anchor has been raised, the captain and his crew would never change course.

Najib Razak, Prime Minsiter, insisting he would not resign despite tens of thousands gathered in Kuala Lumpur for the past two days to call for his resignation

Surely the people will be the judge, but until the next general election, prime minister is just asking for an opportunity for his administration to prove its commitment to keep its promises to the people.

Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Deputy Prime Minister, calling the people should keep an open mind to Najib's explanation

Malays and Bersih 4

There were a number of Gerakan Harapan Baru leaders and supporters present in this rally but not as many (Malay supporters) this time around. The split between PAS and DAP and PKR has had a huge impact on the protests.

Dr Azizuddin Mohd Sani, UKM lecturer, claiming the fracture within the opposition pact was the main reason for the smaller number of Malays at the Bersih rally this year compared with previous years
