Red shirt rally

We are disappointed with the actions of certain irresponsible groups that are distributing our flags and party symbol in trying to link PAS to the September 16 gathering. We wish to reiterate that we are not involved and forbid our members from participating.

Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, PAS deputy president, ordering its members not to take part in Wednesday's "red shirt" rally as it is planned along racial lines

You want to show who has a bigger crowd or is stronger? What will you attain from that? Champions at cheering?

Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, lecturer, objecting the Sept 16 Red Shirt rally and pleading with organisers to call it off

We have agreed to disagree as there were many views presented with some raising their worries while others objected to the rally, saying that Sept 16 is not a suitable date to hold a gathering. As chairman of Barisan, I respect the views expressed by our partners.

Najib Razak, insisting that Barisan Nasional component parties have "agreed to disagree" on the issue of the Sept 16 rally

If we forget our history, we will repeat our past mistakes over and over again.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad, reminding Malaysians not to forget the nation's history or mistakes will be repeated again

I have never agreed with street demonstrations but the organiser has complied with the law. We will facilitate it as our priority is the safety and security of all. Just like Bersih 4, we did not stop anyone from marching.

Khalid Abu Bakar, Inspector General of Police, saying that the police will facilitate the proposed red-shirt rally after the organiser obtained permission to use Padang Merbok

Altantuya and Al-Jazeera

The government must take this documentary film seriously and try to clear our name. Taking it off Al Jazeera in Malaysia would not change anything. The documentary has gone viral in Malaysia and is still shown throughout the world.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad, urging Putrajaya to clear Malaysia’s name in response to the airing of the Al Jazeera documentary on the murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu

Don’t just dare to cook up a story, if you have evidence, be brave enough to lodge report.

Musa Hassan, former IGP, on the Al Jazeera documentary titled ‘Murder in Malaysia’
