DAP-PKR Penang

Abstention by the PKR 5, as a BN daily emphasised, is as good as supporting Umno’s motion and an “act of mutiny from within”. Can the PKR 5 be counted upon as a reliable or dependable partner, ally or member of the Penang state government?

Lim Guan Eng, DAP secretary general, questioning PKR’s loyalty to DAP after 5 PKR assemblyperson abstained from voting in the land reclamation motion brought by Umno

The decision not to vote on the motion on the issue of land reclamation of over 2, 600 hectares cannot be used as a measure of, or to accuse PKR assemblypersons of siding with Umno.

Penang PKR Youth, calling Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s accusations against its state assemblypersons over a Umno motion as “baseless” and “regrettable” and wants his apology

Obama’s visit

He was well briefed and knew what was going on. He assured us of his interest in human rights.

Ambiga Sreenevasan, former Malaysian Bar president, claiming the US president Barack Obama had already known many of their concerns

I don't comment on investigations happening back in the US, I'm certainly not going to comment on any investigations or legal proceedings that are taking place in a foreign country when I'm a visitor. But I did raise with Prime Minister Najib, as I have with many leaders here in Southeast Asia, Africa, Latin America, and everywhere I go, the importance of transparency and accountability, the importance of rooting out corruption, all of which are impediments to developments, all of which hold countries back, contribute to poverty and stunted growth.

Barack Obama, US President, claming he had told Prime Minister Najib Razak on the importance of transparency, accountability and fighting corruption

Umno meeting

I do not see any plot.

Shahrir Samad, Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club chairman, insisting that there is no conspiracy to oust anyone from Umno

Nurul Izzah – Jacel

She should know that her actions can be considered an act of treason. An MP meeting an enemy who attacked parts of our country; we need to know what was the reason behind this meeting. Who knows if the previous attacks were masterminded by the people in the country? We need to call in YB Nurul to provide clarification.

Khalid Abu Bakar, Inspector General of Police, claiming that PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar may have committed an act of treason by meeting with an enemy of the state

Vape ban

Although some of the VCs had made their own announcements on banning vape within the confines of their campuses, I feel a joint decision is very apt because universities are ‘green zones’. Before we only banned smoking of tobacco but now we are extending it to vape as well.

Idris Jusoh, Higher Education Minister, announcing that vaping and smoking are banned in all 20 public universities in the country
