Why RM1b for Jakim? - Horses’ Mouths – 28 December 2015

Why RM1b for Jakim?

Jakim reports to the Conference of Rulers and they usually advise the Federal Government. I am curious to know – if it is true – why do they need a RM1bil budget? Does it include allocations to all the states? During my next Conference of Rulers, I want them to show me their breakdown for expenses. I want to know if they are financing our religious schools here.

PAS-Umno

If Umno vice-president (Datuk Seri Ahmad) Zahid Hamidi said we released a statement asking members to obey, that is not true at all.

Dr Mahfodz Mohamed, PAS Ulama chief, denying that PAS’s Syura Council had instructed party members to support any bid to collaborate with Umno

I've said it before, there is still no formal cooperation between PAS and Umno. There is even no official letter on it.

Israeli windsurfers

It is highly unacceptable that Khairy allowed politics and personal sentiment to meddle into an international sports event. Sports should be above politics and should remain politically neutral.

Chong Zhemin, Perak DAP economic development bureau chief, slamming Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin for the denial of visas for two Israeli windsurfers originally scheduled to compete at a tournament in Langkawi

Sports cannot be separated from humanitarianism. DAP only thinks of Israel’s rights in sports, but not much has been said about DAP’s stand towards the human rights of Palestinians.

Asri Zainul Abidin, Perlis Mufti, slamming Chong’s remark above

Does this mean DAP, who claims to be championing justice and human rights, support Israel in attacking and oppressing Palestine? DAP should be more concerned about this. We also urge Chong to retract his statement and apologise for hurting the feelings of those who stand in solidarity with the Palestinians.

Mohd Akmal Kamarudin, Perak PAS Youth chief

While maintaining sportsmanship which crosses political and religious barries, and at the same time maintain our firm stand against Israel, we are confident that the youth and sports minister could find a middle road to solve all these problems. The ministry should make an effort to find a solution so that athletes who are champions are not denied of their right to compete simply because of the tyranny of their country’s rulers.

Nga Kor Ming, Perak DAP chief, echoing Chong’s view while claiming that the party rejects the violence and oppression by the Zionist regime towards Palestinians
